The mission of Southwest Michigan First is to grow jobs and wealth across the Kalamazoo Region. As a private, not for profit economic development organization, Southwest Michigan First is in the unique position to bridge the gap between business and government but can only do so with the support of business, individuals and foundations. WSI is a proud member of The Kalamazoo Regional Chamber of Commerce, which is the largest business organization in the county, with more than 1,900 member companies. The Chamber is a private, non-profit, voluntary, membership organization which advocates for business, its members range from sole proprietorships to multi-national corporations.
The Chamber serves as the collective voice for business on issues affecting business and the Kalamazoo community. Its members are committed to enhancing the local business climate and maintaining a high quality of life in the community. They are able to accomplish together what no one business could do alone.

The United Way

WSI is a firm believer in community involvement, which is why we have supported our local Greater Kalamazoo United Way since 2004. WSI has been awarded the bronze award in 2004 and a silver award in 2007. For more than 80 years, we have been committed to promoting improvement and growth in Kalamazoo County. Knowledge, relationships, leadership, change and hope are important characteristics that drive GKUW. From a strong, extensive network, we gather resources and information needed to have a positive effect on the community.
In 2007 alone, we raised more than $10.8 million, invested in 61 programs administered by 43 member agencies, facilitated direct gifts, led or assisted in administering and securing an additional $5.8 million in funding, provided technical assistance, and organized thousands of community volunteers.
