Some people are wired for work that has a pulse to it. They grew up around barns, feed stores, or family operations where the animals ate before anybody sat down to dinner, and they learned early that living things do not care about your schedule. Others found their way to it later and discovered they would rather answer to a barn than a screen. Either way, it is the same kind of person: steady, observant, not rattled by early hours or dirty boots, and quietly proud of work that most people never think about until eggs are missing from the shelf.
Chickens do not take days off, which is why this job runs on a five-day schedule that includes weekends. The work sits inside barns that house laying hens, and the Animal Caretaker is the person who walks those rows, watches the birds, and catches the small problems before they turn into big ones. Egg lines back up. Ventilation drifts. A door gets left unlatched. Somebody has to notice.
The operation is an egg production facility in Otsego, Michigan, running automated environmental and egg flow systems inside climate-managed poultry houses. Barn temperature tracks with the weather outside, noise stays moderate, and airborne particles and moving mechanical parts are part of the setting. Personal protective equipment is required in certain areas.
